Other initiatives in the past few years:
A webinar series designed to facilitate learning about what it means to be treaty people, based on the newly published book, To Share Not Surrender, a collection of presentations about Indigenous and settler visions of treaty making in the colonies of Vancouver Island and British Columbia. Through this we have established a mailing list of over 100 people for the sharing of resources and convening up-coming events and actions.
Promoting the Reconciliation Contribution Fund, an initiative arising from the work of the City Family with Victoria City Council. Victoria home and business property owners were invited to make a donation to be passed along to the Songhees and Esquimalt nations recognizing that the city is built on the homelands of these nations, and those of us who own property and do business here benefit from and generate wealth from the lands of those who were displaced and removed in the process of colonization.
Engaging Mark Albany of the Songhees Nation to guide us on a walk through the city through Indigenous eyes.
TRC Scavenger Hunt – an event that took people on an extensive walk throughout the region of James Bay, to discover the significance of specific sites in the history and traditions and practices of lək̓ʷəŋən speaking people, while connecting these with 12 of the TRC Calls to Action.
a series of conversations in response to 3 videos about LAND BACK, produced by the David Suzuki Foundation
