This spring marks a milestone worth celebrating — the 40th anniversary of the James Bay United Church Thrift Shop.
What began as a vision of care and community has grown into a vibrant hub of connection and generosity. The idea for a thrift shop was initiated and developed by members of the church, who recognized a growing need in the neighbourhood. With their support and generosity, the house next door to the church — a charming circa 1890 home — was purchased to house the shop.
Over the past decade, the space has undergone a thoughtful transformation. Fresh paint, new carpet, and a refreshed layout have turned it into a clean, inviting, and uncluttered place where people are not just customers, but neighbours.
In an age of anonymous online shopping, the JBUC Thrift Shop remains a shining beacon of warmth, welcome, and connection — a place where stories are shared, friendships form, and every purchase supports a larger vision of community care.
You're invited!
Come celebrate 40 years with us on Friday, April 25th from 10 am to 1 pm. There’ll be cake, music, and maybe even a few surprise sales!
James Bay United Church is deeply grateful for the wonder and success of the shop and all who make it possible — and we look forward to many more years of shared community.
