Sunday Worship

Sunday Worship

April 6, 10:15 am

This Sunday we read about a lavish act of loving service: Mary anoints Jesus with expensive (very expensive!) essential oils. In shock, Judas disparages her but Jesus comes to her defense. Acting rationally is always a good idea. And once in a while, we have to surrender to love, to do something extravagant for God, for love itself.

Presiding: Greg Powell
Music Lead: Jennifer Turner
Tech Team: Nathan McDormand, Jamie Waters, Barry Putz
Lent Candle-snuffing: Greg Powell
Scripture: Mahima Sylvester

Ignatian Meditation

Ignatian Meditation

A Spiritual Journey Through Lent

Ignatian Meditation is a way to enter into the biblical story of Jesus’ journey—through Lent to Good Friday and Easter. Each week there will be two Gospel readings—one from the upcoming Sunday service and the other on Wednesday.

If you find yourself challenged by these readings, consider reaching out to a friend for discussion. Members of the Worship Team are also available at worship@jamesbayunited.com if you would like to talk.

Dark Valleys and Still Waters

Dark Valleys and Still Waters

by Christian MacLean from In Love With the Life of Life

Think of the dark valleys you have walked through in life.
Hold before God those known to you facing dark times.
Remember the places of fear and hatred in our world.
Hold in the light those opposing and challenging
all that extinguishes hope.

And then close your eyes and picture still waters.
Fresh, clear, limpid, cleansing.
Reflecting light.
Revealing what lies beneath.

Jesus, walk with us through the dark valleys.
Guide us by still waters.
And restore our souls.

New Twist on an Old Scam

New Twist on an Old Scam

Recently, some members of JBUC received an email that seemed to come from the staff and minister, requesting gift cards. Fortunately, members recognized it as a scam. Please be aware that staff and congregational leaders will never ask for gift cards or cash via email. Staying informed and cautious is our best defense against such scams. Let's continue to protect ourselves and our community by remaining vigilant.
