On Sunday, we celebrate the hymn texts of the late Rev. Ruth C. Duck, who passed away on December 26, 2023. Both of our current hymnals contain ten hymns for which Rev. Duck wrote the texts, and several of these feel like our unofficial congregational “anthems.” The themes and imagery she uses are so wide-ranging that they resist any attempt to pigeonhole her writing. Both Jennifer and Greg will offer reflections on some of the hymns.

Bonus points if anyone correctly guesses how many Ruth Duck hymns feature in Sunday’s service—before seeing the bulletin!

Exciting news! You cast your votes for the new annual theme at the Volunteer Fair on Sunday – can you guess what it is?

Join us for a Choir Workshop led by our Music Minister, Jennifer Turner. This workshop is open to members of the JBUC Worship Choir and anyone interested in joining for upcoming Sunday services. We invite you to submit hymns that inspire you to be a light in a world that often feels dark and unjust. Choose one or two hymns from Voices United or More Voices and submit your selections by Monday, February 10 via the Singing Our Faith drop box in the sanctuary or by filling out this quick and easy online form. Be sure to include your name, email, hymn title and number, and preferred verses. Let’s lift our voices together!

Daniel Morel, known to many as an amazing harmonica player, is looking for a shared space or apartment for March or April. He is 32 years old and enjoys a healthy, peaceful lifestyle. Daniel is polite, pleasant, and an active volunteer at the Community Lunch. He loves playing music with others and can pay $500 per month. This Sunday and next after the service, there will be tables set up downstairs (11:30 to 1pm) where we can craft together and build our window design for this delightful annual event.
