Drummer and bandleader Kelby MacNayr assembles five of the West Coast's finest improvisers to breathe life into the classic jazz sounds of the 1950s and ’60s Blue Note era.

With the goal of bringing back to the bandstand the toe-tapping, swinging, story-telling traditions of Blue Note Records artists, this band sizzles—celebrating the work of Cannonball Adderley, Art Blakey, Horace Silver, Duke Pearson, and more!

This concert not only honours the compositional genius and aesthetic of the era but celebrates the true spirit and essence of jazz—authentic creative expression, innovation, and collective experience. Expect a rich performance filled with musical stories, energy, and character.

Featuring an all-star quintet:

  • Cuban trumpet virtuoso Miguelito Valdes

  • Saxophonist Roy Styffe

  • Pianist Dr. Tony Genge

  • Bassist Peter Dowse

  • Drummer Kelby MacNayr

About the Artists:
Roy Styffe has been at the forefront of Canadian jazz saxophone for over 30 years—a lyrical improviser whose sound echoes the melodicism of Paul Desmond, the playfulness of Cannonball Adderley, and the depth of John Coltrane.

Cuban trumpeter Miguelito Valdes rose to international acclaim touring with the Buena Vista Social Club, the Afro-Cuban All Stars, and more. Now based on Canada’s West Coast, Miguelito is a favourite of Tuesday Night Jazz audiences and beyond.

Pianist Dr. Tony Genge is a cornerstone of Canadian jazz, having performed, taught, and composed at the highest level for over 30 years, working with artists like Roberta Gambarini, Jeff Hamilton, Russ Botten, Neil Swainson, and more.

Left-handed electric bassist Peter Dowse brings a deep sense of groove and collaboration to the rhythm section—anchoring this dynamic ensemble with warmth and drive.

Drummer Kelby MacNayr has performed across North America with jazz greats like George Colligan, Louise Rose, John Clayton, Ian McDougall, and more. A celebrated drummer, composer, and bandleader, MacNayr treasures most the connection between performers and audience—the living spirit of the music.
