Movie Feature: "The King's Speech"
After a warm and delicious dinner, we will screen the multi-award-winning film, The King’s Speech. This 2011 film swept the major movie awards that year, taking home Best Picture, Best Actor (Colin Firth), Best Actress (Helena Bonham Carter), and Best Director (Tom Hooper), among others.
Based on a true story, the film follows King George VI’s struggle to overcome a severe speech impediment. As the likelihood of his ascension to the throne became clear, his wife, Queen Elizabeth (Helena Bonham Carter), sought treatment for him. With the looming threat of war, the King faced the challenge of delivering radio broadcasts to the nation – a task that would demand not only his personal courage but also the unwavering support of his speech therapist.
This heartfelt and inspiring film is a powerful story of perseverance, friendship, and triumph over adversity. It’s a perfect way to end an evening filled with good food and good company.
