Sunday WorshipSunday, October 6, 10:15 am We continue exploring the Tree of Life theme during this Time of Creation in the Christian calendar. This week we consider flowers and the beauty the Tree of Life shares that way. What is the beauty in us that others see, even if we can seldom see it ourselves? Could we see ourselves as beautiful as the cherry blossoms in spring, or the camellia blossoms in late winter? Presiding: Rev Greg Powell For more infomation visit:

Prayer for a renewal of our shared humanityby The United Church of Canada It is October 7. A day now associated with horror. A day linked—for many—to innate fear and also to resilience.
We reckon with this dichotomy. We reckon with the unspeakable grief and trauma. We reckon with the killing of entire families and the destruction of their homes, livelihood, and land in Gaza.

James Bay United Church Board SummarySeptember 26, 2024 The Church Board met via Zoom on Thursday, September 26, to discuss several important matters. One highlight was the development of a new pamphlet, created by Greg and Zunaira, detailing how the church uses its funds—perfect for answering common questions at the Thrift Shop and for wider community use. The board is also exploring the option of adding a QR code in the church or bulletin for easy donations, given the decline in cash use. While offerings are down for the first half of the year, the Thrift Shop has exceeded expectations, offering some financial relief. Additionally, thanks to Nathan, our livestream computer has been replaced, ensuring our online worship community remains connected. In other exciting news, a group of congregants has proposed that James Bay United Church sponsor a refugee family, so stay tuned for more details as this compassionate initiative begins. Be sure to check out upcoming reports from various church teams in the next month. For more infomation visit:

Movie Nightwith Potluck Dinner! - Saturday, October 19, 5:30pm Join us for a fun-filled evening of food, fellowship, and film! Doors open at 5:30 pm (back door), and dinner will be served at 6:30pm. This is a potluck, so please bring a dish to share! After dinner, we'll settle in for a screening of My Week with Marilyn, starting around 7:20pm. Mark your calendars for this delightful event, happening right after Thanksgiving Monday! Marilyn arrives with her entourage, including her second husband, playwright Arthur Miller, and acting coach Paula Strasberg (played by Zoe Wanamaker), and is constantly hounded by paparazzi. The film shows Monroe at a vulnerable point in her life, with her persona starting to unravel, often requiring support from her coach and Dame Sybil Thorndyke (played by Dame Judi Dench) in dealing with Olivier. Monroe forms a close relationship with her driver, a student who becomes her confidante and protector. He eventually wrote the memoir on which the movie is based.
