Tuesday Night Jazz at the Church presentsAvram McCagherty and Friends! - August 6, 7pm Avram Devon McCagherty is one of Victoria's most beloved musical treasures! A versatile musician, Avram's expertise spans numerous musical styles, from folk music and Irish musical traditions to Gypsy Jazz, under the tutelage of legendary guitarist Marc Atkinson. He later delved into Traditional Jazz with the guidance of his friend and mentor, legendary banjo player and early jazz historian Borgy Borgeson, forging a unique musical identity. Avram leads several musical ventures, including the beloved Capital City Syncopators, Stomp Club, and the Avram McCagherty Trio. He is also an indispensable member of groups such as the Yiddish Columbia State Orchestra, Canus, and more. In this special presentation, Avram brings together long-time musical friends and collaborators Brooke Maxwell and Joey Smith! Originally from Parksville, British Columbia, Brooke Maxwell is a multi-instrumentalist of worldwide acclaim as a composer, bandleader, vocalist, pianist, and saxophonist. Brooke has two albums as a leader and currently has songs on TikTok with over 40 million views! Bassist, guitarist, arranger, and vocalist Joey Smith had a respected career touring with legendary jazz musicians, including the Glenn Miller Orchestra, before settling on Canada’s West Coast. Musical Chairs, Anyone?Take a Seat, Spread the Love Did you know that since the removal of church pews several years ago we’ve been sitting on loaned chairs from Fairfield United? They generously gave us the opportunity to buy the 38 chairs in the Sanctuary at a cost of $25 each. We took up their offer. Now we must cover the cost to assure the welcome of all who open our doors whether they be congregation members, Tuesday Night Jazz at the Church followers, Community Guitar Class participants, or James Bay Community Chorus singers.
