Victoria-Harbourside Rotary Club offering locally made fruitcakes for tasty fundraiser.
Local Rotarians are once again getting into the spirit of the season with fruitcakes that not only taste good, they do good. These cakes are lovingly handmade by Harbourside Rotarians & friends and family, using a recipe that has been handed down through the generations of the club president, Ann Moskow. (The cognac probably helps).

Yes! These are the cakes voted best cake a few years ago by CBC hosts Don Genova, a journalist who specializes in writing and broadcasting about food and travel, and Jo-Anne Roberts, then host of All Points West.
Last year, Harbourside Rotary funded almost $165,000 in our local community, some of which was raised through these cakes. Here is some of what Harbourside supported last year.
Locally
- Centre for Outreach Education: reading, writing and math support to at risk children
- George Jay Elementary: facilitating the inclusion of low income families into the community
- Mustard Seed Church: providing access to healthy food to youth at risk
- Braefoot Community Association: supporting low-income families attend summer camps
- Disaster Aid Canada: Soap for Hope program providing hygiene products to people in need
- Breakfast programs at Quadra Elementary, Central Middle School, and Vic High
- programs to develop youth leaders, and
- scholarships for students graduating from high school in School Districts 61 and 63.
Internationally
- capital funding for micro credit loans and basic business training for women in Guatemala
- scholarships to a girls’ school in Malawi
- programs in Afghanistan supporting education for girls
- physician travel packs fur use in central America
- a program for sustainable reforestation in Zambia
