Good afternoon James Bay United Church,
If you've ever been part of the behind the scenes preparation for our Sunday morning services, you'll be aware there's a fair bit afoot! Aside from the nitty gritty details that wouldn't be so obvious when we gather, there's a whole imaginative exercise underway, especially when we approach a new season. If you are curious about that, and along with curiousity, feel a desire to be part of this creative experience, this invitation is for YOU ...
It is a priority of the Worship Team to welcome and support more people to take part in the planning and leadership of our Sunday morning services. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY ... it is your curiosity, creativity, and courage to venture your ideas and questions, as we listen for the Spirit’s inspiration together that matters.
There is lots of room to enrich the shape and texture, the sense of wonder and mystery, of our worship.
* If you enjoy reflecting on themes and imagining possibilities for bringing them to life
* If you are looking to deepen your experience on Sunday mornings
* If you eagerly anticipate a particular season (Advent, Lent, Easter, etc)
* If you long to participate with more of your senses
* If you are able to make a short term commitment, eg. to be part of planning 1 season in particular
please speak with me or Cheryl Macpherson.
The next season we’ll be planning for is the Season of Creation, a season of 5 weeks, Thanksgiving – November 19, in which we give special attention to the wonder and gift of God’s creation. We anticipate meeting in the third week of June to envision our direction for the season, and then reconvene early September to do the work of specific planning, having had time for thoughts and dreams to percolate.
It has already fallen off the newscast, the word about the devastating famine conditions in Kenya, Yemen, Nigeria, South Sudan and Somalia. But we are being asked, across the United Church to continue to be aware, and consider a donation which, until June 30th, will be matched dollar for dollar by the Federal Government. For more information and guidance in making a donation, please open this link.
Our congregational picnic is fast approaching -- Saturday, June 17, from 11:30 a.m. until we've run out of steam (or light!) for visiting, games, eating, and generally having a fine time. All being well, Leyla will be joining us, so a chance for us to meet her and her us. We'll gather in Beacon Hill Park, across the road from the petting zoo, beside the rose garden. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on, some picnic food to share, and your sun hat and sunscreen because, of course, you'll need it!
In the meantime, I look forward to seeing those of you who are able to join us for worship on Sunday.
Grace and Peace, Karen
