Good afternoon, James Bay United,
If not 4 calling birds, I wonder what are the gifts you are receiving on this Fourth Day of Christmas?
I want to let you know that this Sunday morning, even better that 7 swimming swans we’ll be receiving 5 fabulous folks into the membership of James Bay United ... Heather Caldwell and Norma Hill who have been part of the congregation for some time now, along with Joanne and Ralph Huston and Tanis Rebbetoy, who have landed among us recently. It is with this blessing all around that we begin 2017. I hope, even with the potentially late night festivities of the night before, you’ll be part of the welcome come Sunday morning. (Coffee will be available, as needed, on arrival!)
Before we get to Sunday morning, know of the invitation to a New Year’s Eve party at the church. Gary has an enjoyable plan in store ... check out the
details on our website.
The following Sunday, January 8th, is the day we’ve identified for gathering in the green response forms that accompanied the letter that ideally you received earlier in December. January 8th coincides with our Epiphany celebration, that takes its lead from the story of the Magi following the star, bearing gifts for the Christ child. As you attend to your response form, my hope is that you would do so in the spirit of asking yourself “So what are the gifts I would offer, both as an act of gratitude and as a way of extending the reach of God’s love?” If you didn’t happen to receive the letter, or if it’s been misplaced, please be in touch and I will gladly be sure you get one. Also, I encourage you to double check the figures included in your letter showing your financial offerings to date, and be in touch with Vanya in the office if those details are not as you expected.
Last thing for now ... On our James Bay Refugee Intiative page you will find some
notes that were compiled by one of the members of the James Bay Refugee Initiative, who was part of a gathering recently that brought together Syrian newcomers who have arrived in Victoria this year. What you will find there is an amazing testimony to their gratitude and resilience, and a description of some of their most basic needs at this point. Judy and Aleksa would welcome your call should you wish to be in touch in response.
