Good evening, James Bay United Church,
There’s something about standing on this August / September threshold that feels different than other month end / new month junctures in the year. While it’s been a summer like no other in BC, I trust there have been times of delight and refreshment these warm months for you.
As we step into September, there are plans afoot and opportunities too numerous to name in this note … maybe a few teasers! But just to say that next Sunday, September 10, will be our WELCOME FEAST. Plan to linger after worship for a BBQ lunch. It will be a prime opportunity for reconnecting and meeting folks who are new to us who land in that day. As well, we’ll have brochures available outlining events for the Fall, and a display of opportunities for teaming up with each other for service of all kinds. I wonder who in your circle would value an invitation to join you in checking out what James Bay United Church has to offer in the way of food for body and soul? It will be a great day to taste and see. As for the BBQ, hamburger, hotdogs and drinks will be provided. You may wish to bring a salad to share.
Out of the vast array of up-coming events, I want to alert you to a wonderful initiative that is coming to our neighbourhood. In case you haven’t already heard, James Bay is one of three neighbourhoods in the Greater Victoria region that has been selected to engage in the Building Resilient Streets project. It is an initiative designed to strengthen our community’s capacity for caring and responding to changes and challenges by helping neighbours connect and collaborate. Hosted and supported by SHIFT Collaborative in conjunction with Greater Victoria Eldercare Foundation and BC Healthy Communities Society, we are invited to a Resilient Streets Kick-Off event on Sunday, September 17, 7-9pm at the James Bay Community School Centre. “Come together for an evening of ideas, stories, inspiration on fun ways to build community amongst immediate neighbours, meet some neighbours, learn about micro-grants, community resources, tools for getting started on small projects or gatherings. Register soon to ensure your spot. at resilientneighbourhoods.ca. Learn more .
A wonderful Fall is shaping up. I look forward to sharing in it with you.
Just a reminder … tomorrow and Saturday, we pull out all the stops for customer appreciation day at the Thrift Shop.
Grace and Peace,
Karen
