Compelled by our love and gratitude for the whole creation
we, the people of James Bay United Church,
acknowledge with fear and with courage
that the clock is ticking
and we have precious little time
to turn around the climate emergency.
We confess our knowing and unknowing complicity
in the destruction of God’s wondrous creation,
and we are truly sorry.
We commit to see the truth and change our ways,
knowing that we must end our use of fossil fuels
and our obsession with endless economic growth.
And so we commit to turn
from consumption to collaboration
from disregard to accountability
from entitlement to sacrifice
embracing a radical commitment to the common good
grounded in Jesus’ way of non-violence.
We are challenged by the necessity of having to let go of our self-interest.
And yet, we proclaim that Love’s power is stronger than death,
and that in giving ourselves to Love’s way,
there is a future for life on Earth.
We are hugely heartened by the global uprising of solidarity with Creation
in this largest common project that humanity has ever shared.
With joy and passion and a holy imagination
we take our place
trusting that for such a time as this
God is calling us to enact a new story of hope.
