Sunday, June 8 is going to be a day full of Spirit, celebration, and community at James Bay United Church—and you’re invited to be part of it all.

We begin the day early, at 8:30am, down at the Dallas Road Swim Pavilion for a baptism like no other. In celebration of Pentecost and the 100th anniversary of the United Church of Canada, we’ll be welcoming four people into the community of Christ through baptism in the ocean. Yes—in the water, by the water, and even under the water of the beautiful (and brisk!) Pacific Ocean. These baptisms are a joyful, tangible expression of faith and belonging.

Then, we return to the church for our 10:15am Pentecost Worship Service, where we continue celebrating the gift of the Spirit, the birth of the Church, and our centennial year.

We will hold a potluck lunch on June 8 as part of our celebrations of the centennial and Pentecost. In the spirit of Pentecost when many nations came together to hear the Word, folks are invited to share their family tradition and recipes and bring a favourite dish to share.

And after potluck, the party continues with our Pride Preparation Party! We’ll gather at the church’s front steps to give our entrance a fresh and fabulous touch-up in time for Pride Week. This fun and informal event is a hands-on way to express love, welcome, and solidarity with the LGBTQIA2S+ community. Whether you wield a paintbrush or simply want to share in the joy, all are welcome.

Come for the Spirit, the splash, and the colour—a Sunday filled with meaning, joy, and community.
