Many of us grew up in households, families of origin where these verses were often referenced.

Hebrews 13:2 "Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it"

Romans 12:13 "Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality"

1 Peter 4:9"Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling"

In setting up the financial framework for operating our community of faith we sometimes, by design, forsake our teachings for practical reasons like:

1 Gordon 2:7 – They who play the piano most shalt pay for the bulk of the piano tuning.

1 Martin 3:4 – Paint now, or forever hold thy peace.

Tech Team 1:7;9 – From many microphones doth God spake; A brighter future cometh with a better lens.

By establishing boxes of who is paying for what, we sometimes inadvertently ‘silo’ ourselves, into thinking that our important endeavours need protecting. We can be at risk of thinking that the inputs we create (ideas, money and positive energy, events and volunteer activity) somehow need to be contained within our own silo/kingdom. But the whole of our earthly effort at James Bay United Church cannot be contained and should focus on one expansive output: people gaining access to Abundant Love.

Treasurers math for this week:

2 or more cups of coffee
+ 2 or more people to share it with
= “there am I with them” Matthew 18:20

Coffee anyone?

We’re buying!
