Tuesday Night Jazz at the Church presents Windsor/Detroit-based trumpet virtuoso Russ Macklem & Friends!

Admission is by donation, with a suggested contribution of $20. However, everyone is welcome, regardless of contribution.
Russ Macklem is a Windsor/Detroit-based trumpet player, composer, educator, and recording artist. His 2023 debut release, The South Detroit Connection, was nominated for a JUNO Award and marked the first live album recorded in Windsor in over 22 years (at Phog Lounge), with the last being by Detroit trumpet legend Marcus Belgrave at the Capitol Theatre. Belgrave’s son, saxophonist/flautist Kasan Belgrave, is featured on the album and in Russ's new quintet, which makes its debut at the 2024 Detroit Jazz Festival.
Russ holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Miami Frost School of Music, where he studied under Grammy Award-winning trumpet player Brian Lynch. He also earned a Master’s of Music with Honors from New England Conservatory, studying with notable musicians Jerry Bergonzi, George Garzone, Cecil McBee, Bob Moses, and John McNeil, and a Bachelor of Music from McGill University.
