Doors will open at 6pm, POTLUCK dinner at 6:30pm and the movie will start at 7:15pm.
The Movie: KING RICHARD
This is the true story of Richard Williams, the father of the super-star tennis players Serena & Venus Williams, who trained, cajoled, and harassed his two girls into genius-expertise...starting with a plan he developed before they were born. The patriarch of a very poor black family, he and his wife train the girls into his own version of tennis, a sport notable for its central position at the center of whites-only supremacy. He also maneuvers the first-rank teachers into taking on the girls for training, usually for no fee. Their unique style eventually becomes internationally recognized.
The movie was released and shown in 10 different film festivals during the fall of 2021. Will Smith stars as Richard Williams. The movie was nominated in 7 categories of the Academy Awards, including Best Picture, with Smith winning for Best Actor. The performances are mesmerizing, like the ones we saw in the 'Edith Piaf' movie last month.
